Did the earth move for you?
How far does the earth travel during sex? The Quirkology team joined forces with Professor John C. Brown, Astronomer Royal for Scotland, to provide an answer to the age-old question "did the earth move for you?"
The answer, it seems, is always yes, but we went all the way to find out just how far…more than 89 million miles. The average romp lasts seven minutes and 54 seconds.
In that time the Earth spins 86 miles on its axis and orbits 8,818 miles around the Sun.
Our solar system moves 4,937 miles in relation to our local star cluster, which in turn orbits 74,062 miles around the centre of the Milky Way galaxy.
On top of that, the Milky Way speeds 39,500 miles towards the Andromeda Galaxy while our group of galaxies hurtles 177,750 miles towards the constellation Hydra. Meanwhile the universe is always expanding and travels 88,875,000 miles.
Using these calculations, provided by Prof Brown, we created a website where you can find out your own personal earth moves figure.
