If you have already bought Quirkology, then you will be familiar with some of the amusing, fascinating or downright weird experiments it describes. On this page we have provided some additional information for those among you curious to know more.

In the book, Prof Wiseman describes an experiment he did with actor Leslie Nielsen, star of the Scary Movie and Naked Gun films and Police Squad. This was to demonstrate the verbal and non-verbal signals that give away when someone is lying.

In chapter two, Prof Wiseman talks about research he undertook into the reliability of eyewitness testimony at séances.

He set up fake séances to demonstrate some of the tricks of the medium's trade and find out whether modern audiences would react to them in the same way as their Victorian counterparts.
